LIFE IS A DREAM
FOR "R.S.V.P."
Award Winning Black Comedy, "R.S.V.P."
gets scooped up by Dream Entertainment as flick invades Cannes Fest with
a two-pronged attack.
Cannes, FRANCE 28 May, 2002
With two screenings at the brand new Rivera 8 in the
heart of the Cannes Film Festival, this little indie once again proved
its ability to compete with the studio big boys, as a capacity crowd lined
up outside the state-of-the-art theatre, this time to witness the overseas
premiere of Writer/Director Mark Anthony Galluzzos sophomore feature
"R.S.V.P"..
An old-fashioned yet irreverent comedy romp, "R.S.V.P."
cleverly mixes the spirit of Frank Capras "Arsenic and Old Lace"
with Alfred Hitchcocks "Rope". Set in the heart of sin
city itself, Las Vegas, Nevada, "R.S.V.P." follows a group
of twenty-somethings on their last and we do mean last
- night of collegiate bliss. Co-Stars include, Majandra Delfino (Roswell,
Traffic), Reno Wilson (The Chronicle), Grace Zabriskie (Wild
at Heart, Trash), Jonathan Banks (Wiseguy, Trash), Glenn Quinn
(Angel), and a breakout performance by cult icon Jason Mewes (Jay
& Silent Bob Strike Back, Clerks, Dogma).
Los Angeles based Dream Entertainment, who is representing
"R.S.V.P." at Cannes, is one of the industry's fastest
rising independent motion picture production, sales and distribution companies.
Dream's role as both a production and a worldwide sales entity gives Dream
an unusual advantage in its objective to develop, produce and deliver extremely
strong and creative projects. Dream's formula consists of high quality,
award-winning movies which convey a strong box office potential.
Ehud Bleiberg and Yitzhak Ginsberg founded Dream Entertainment
in 1993. Previously, they had each produced critically acclaimed
motion pictures in Israel. Their credits include King of Jerusalem
(Toronto Film Festival 1988), The Appointed (Official Selection
Cannes Film Festival 1990), and Tel Aviv Stories, which was released
theatrically in Europe in 1993 and has now been optioned for a studio remake.
Their biggest indie success to date, though, is the worldwide teen phenomina
"100 Girls", which premiered theatrically in over a dozen countries
and won the Video Premiere Award in 2001 for best feature in the U.S. in
addition to spawning a profitable sequel as well, "100 Women".
As for "R.S.V.P.", the audience response
in CANNES was as overwhelmingly enthusiastic as Park City (where it won
the Audience Award for Best Feature) -- the bloodless Hitchcockian
thriller translating well into dozens of languages. Immediate sales were
made with the territories of: THIALAND, SOUTH AFRICA, SCANDINAVIA, GREECE,
SOUTH KOREA, ISREAL, and AUSTRAILIA and negotiations continue for the territories
of FRANCE and GERMANY.
All in all the trip across the pond was considered
by both Dream and Filmworks to be a smashing success. The summer looks
even more prosperous for the indie thriller, as DREAM turns its sales sights
on the domestic market, having already lined-up screenings with executives
at New Line Cinema and Artisan Entertainment.
Mark Anthonys other credits include his critically
acclaimed feature debut "Trash", starring Jaime Pressly (Not
Another Teen Movie, Jack & Jill) and Jeremy Sisto (Jesus, Six
Feet Under), which Kevin Thomas of the LA Times declared, "A
potent coming-of-age drama set on the wrong side of the tracks."
